    RESISTOR

    Hi,
I have G203V Geckodrive's and my motors needs 6.1 and 4.3 amps to run, in the owner's manual it give me 282K for 6 amps and 62.67k for 4 amps.
If I do the maths properly i think that the required resistor would be 286.7 and 67.37 Kohm.
First I would like to know if my maths are correct and if so what are the colors coding for the resistors.
    Thank you

    Hi

the resistor values given in the manual are the nearest 5% resistors
to set the current from 1A to 7A ,in 1/2 amp steps

    for 6.1A R in K ohm = (47 x 6.1)/( 7-6.1) = 286.7/0.9 = 318.56 ohms

    for 4.3A R = (47 x 4.3)/ (7-4.3) = 202.1/2.7 = 69.69 ohms

the colour code on the resistors will depend on the series the resistors are from

5% resistors fom E24 will have 3 bands indicating the value
2 for the fist 2 digits and then 1 for the multiplier (plus gold for 5% tolerance)

    eg 10K = brown black orange gold ( 1 ,0, x 1000 +or -5%)

but a 1% resistor can be 4 or 5 bands to indicate the value

    Hi
If I'm understanding this, I would need a 318.56 k ohm for the 6.1 Amp and a 69.69 K ohm for the 4.3 Amp, if so can I round it out at 320 and 70. I think that the four band 5% resistors are the most available around here
    Thank you for your help

    Hi,

yes in theory thats the resistors you want

but in practice have to compromise and use the E12 range of values

for example use a 68K ohm resistor for the 4.3A motor
or 68K + 10K is series if you use two resistors

and a 270 K ohm for the 6.1 A motor if you use a single resistor
or a 270K and a 47K resistor in series if you use two resistors

you could use a 330K resistor if you decide to go just over 6.1A
