Last week I posted About a probe that failed to work. Two days ago I took apart my entire setup to track down the problem. Well, I think I found the problem! The heatsink I mounted on the back has an electrical charge on it! The heatsink is mounted using thermal tape and registering an 11v charge. I have no clue where the voltage is coming from because nothing is touching the heatsink except for the tape and of course the back of the g540. The touch probe will work again if the heatsink gets grounded. The real questions are: Is this normal behavior for the heatsink? Is there something wrong with my g540? Why is the voltage 11 V when the power supply is 48 V?

| Are you sure this is not leakage? Measuring with a modern digital meter, due to the high impedance/sensitivity they often will measure stray capacitive or inductive induced voltages. The fact that you can ground it with no ill effects suggests it cannot support current and is in fact possibly leakage. Al.

| It could very well be leakage but where is the voltage coming from? It is only present on the heatsink. I'm going to permanently ground the heatsink on Monday so that should take care of the problem. Thanks for your help!
