G540,620 oz nema 23, what power supply and winding?

Have new nema 23 620 oz from modelshopcnc.com..,motor phase amp for parallel is 7.O at 2.1 volts.....G50 states 3.5 amp phase max? So do I have to run series at 4.2 -volts and 3.5 amps? What power supply do I need? Have a 24at 6.amps? Help?

Buy me a Beer?

Does the motor have 8 wires? Do you have a link to the motor spec sheet?

Based on the motor's inductance you can figure out the maximum recommended voltage to use with the motor.

If you can wire the windings in series instead of in parallel, then I expect that you will be able to run them OK with 3.5 amps. Wiring the windings in series will call for a higher voltage to get the optimum speed. As the G540 is limited to a maximum of 50 volts, you will probably find that using a 48 volt power supply will be better than running it at 24 volts.

Spec Sheet

http://www.modelshopcnc.com/index_fi...f/RS23-620.pdf
Here is the spec sheet. Yes they are 8 lead.

Based on these specs will the motor really draw 7 amps if wire parallel?

Specs say running parallel pahse at 7amps. Gecko says I will only see a reduction in over all power. Basicall I have a 24 volt 6.5 amp power supply...this won't work? I guess I would be running at 50%.

I wanted to run parallel because of overall performance both at low and high speed while maintaining optimum torque?

Anyways....Thank you for your help.

An overall optimum set up recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Todd

The G540 will limit the current to 3.5 A.

Reducing the current below the rated value should give you a proportional decrease in torque.

With either wiring arrangement it should work, but 24 volts will not give you the ultimate speed that you might be able to get with a higher voltage. If my calculation is correct, you would want around 40 volts for a parallel hookup or around 80 volts for the series hookup (but the max voltage rating of the G540 would limit you to less than 50 volts).

Hooked up 620's at 24volts

So I have old Keiling 282oz motors that would not turn the new lead screws that I have. I hooked up the 620oz motors at 24 volts with an old driver just to see if they would work. They do! I fooled around with series and then parrallel wirings and had an "aha" moment where I understand basically how higher voltage is going to get me more speed. I will have to upgrade power supply later and as for the G540...I will settle for the 3.5 amps per phase and plan on more robust drivers for this machine at a later date. I'll use the G540 for a second smaller machine at a later date.

Doorknob....Thank you for your help.

Eventually I will post some pics of the build I've been working on for almost two years now.

Thanks,

Todd

Glad to hear that it is working for you...

Be sure to post pictures of your machine when you're ready...
