I have a CNC Machine I'm trying to refit and the encoder is a 2500line Danaher mounted directly on the ballscrew and the motor is coupled 1:2 via a kevlar belt. Do you see any issues with that? It worked on the factory setup without an issue. The drive I'm using is a G320, the machine was super accurate before and I'm trying to maintain that. |

| Mazak used that method on many of their lathes for years. Al.

| INdustrial Hobbies does this on there mills also. ALthough I do think they used a higher resilution encoder to help it work better. It may come down to the drives being used. If you have problems a encoder change would propably take care of it. Jess |

| As long as there is no play between the encoder and the motor it should be fine. My Tree mill journeyman 300 uses 2/1 ratio timing belt drive from the ballscrew. If on power up your machine breakout into severe oscillation then you have slop somewhere. Dan Mauch Camtronics, inc. -- CNC with Dan Mauch

| I have the machine up and running, but on reverse direction I get a lot of noise on the X Axis. The Y & Z seem OK, would it be safe to say the belt is still a little loose? I, see a 10v dip when all three axis change direction together should I get a larger capacitor? Also, I have another issue. When I tell the machine to stop a program Mach3 or open a menu. The software abruptly halts motion, and anything over 50IPM causes the drives to fault. Any ideas would be great. I'm going to hook up my smooth stepper soon and I'm hoping to match the original max feed rate of 200IPM. |
