I just purchased a RHT23-270 stepper motor and a GeckoDrive G201 to drive it from www.homeshopcnc.com. I'm not sure how to wire it up. I want to wire the motor Bipolar, for which it is rated 270 oz/in and 2.8 Amps, 3.75 Volts. The wiring diagram below came with the motor. So, should the wiring be: Black Phase A Green Phase B Red Phase C Blue Phase D Yellow Not used White Not used Does that look correct? What value resistor should I use on the G201 for this motor? They say to use 18K for 2A and 36K for 3A, so should I use 25K for 2.8A? Also, what Voltage should I feed to the G201 for this motor? Lance |

| I would say you'd get better results by wiring the motors bipolar half winding. That way you can use the steppers full current. Use a centre tap and one outer wire to make each phase. eg. white/blue ---phase A/B yellow/green--phase C/D Regards Terry..... Last edited by MrBean; 08-10-2005 at 11:25 AM. |

just wondering why you said 30-4- volt DC, I thought 20-25 times the voltage is recommended ? so in this case 70 volt ? regards ruddy |

| hi jerry, just wondering why you said 30-40 volt DC, I thought 20-25 times the voltage is recommended ? so in this case 70 volt ? ------------------------------------------------------ In the previous post, the voltage was recommended due to the heating of the stepper motors during operation. The higher the voltage, the hotter the stepper motors will get during extended operation. If the steppers exceed the temperature rating on the nameplate, they can de-magnetize and ruin the motor. My system runs on 48 VDC, and I can only run the CNC 2 1/2 hours without allowing the motors to cool off. Jerry |

| 20 to 25 is the MAX recommended. The best voltage to use is the lowest that will give the performance you need. Any higher just causes extra heat. If the motor runs as you need at 30V, running at 60V will just give you a much hotter motor.

| I think you will make a trouble if you use a unipolar stepper be a bipolar stepper. The motor heat will rise soon and the torque will be drop down. TO choose the right stepper,Please e-mail: mct.motor@msa.hinet.net Steven |
