All, I just recently built my own CNC router and have had good luck with it all except for my stepper drivers. I got the 640oz-in motors, Keling KL5056 stepper drivers and C10 breakout board from Keling. I've had 3 of the KL5056's go bad on me. The first couple were my fault because of a crash but this last one... I don't know. So - I decided to buy a Gecko G203V to replace it. I talked to the tech support people at Gecko and they told me it would work. .......well, I'm not so sure. At least not in the same system with the KL5056's I still have. I got it to work by running the common to ground on the board since the KL5056's have to have a 5v+ common for the pulse/dir. This worked to get the motor running but I couldn't seem to get any accuracy that way - lost pulses. Then my Z-axis (one of the 5056's) started acting up. The more I read it sounds like the KL5056 are sinking pulse/dir inputs and the G203V is setup to be sourcing so this may be an issue I can't have both in the same system. Can anybody please confirm? Also - have you had any issues tuning the G203v in Mach 3? With the KL5056's it was very easy and didn't take anything special after setting the pulses/in - ie no pulse/dir stretchers, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks, Brian |

| Never mind - I found the problem. The G203 would jog fine but loose its position under cutting load. So I put the old KL5056 back in and it did the same so I started looking at other things - ie motor & found the coupling was slipping - probably my issue all along and yes you can make a G203V work in a system with KL5056's, just have to wire the common for your pulse/dir to ground on the board instead of com on the output because it's 5V+ for the Keling drives. |

I intent to put together same setup as yours with KL 5056 driver, c10 bob and 640 oz/in stepper motors from Keling. Seeing that you went through teething problem, you can advise me and direct me what to buy Your advice will be highly appreciated Thank you Gasant |

| Gasant, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I think the C10 BOB and 640oz-in motors are fine. Both meet my needs and the motors have plenty of power. If I had it to do over from the beginning though I'd would have used the Gecko G203V stepper drivers over the KL5056's. I thought there was a huge price difference at the time but there's not in USD. At least if you crash a Gecko I've heard many people say it will survive. The 5056's do not. Hope that helps. Brian |
