Problem- Why put fuses in the g540?

When they dont pop? This is my 3rd G540, and every one of them have blown up, with intact fuses. I am not sure what to do?

Have you gotten any of them to work?

Are they getting to hot?

When you say "blown up", what exactly happens to them.

I think the fuse just protects against incorrect power supply wiring.

What voltage are you using? The manual states that greater than 50V can damage the drive.

I walked in to cut a plane, turned on th epower and flipped the estop so I could start mach3, nothing. I have tested my PS 48VDC at 12.5A constant. I reckon blew up means that it does not work anymore, there was not an actual explosion, nor was the smoke let out, that I could see. I took out the fuse and tested the resistance and it tested fine. I put a new fuse in it just to be on the safe side, but nothing....

I have one in the post back to Gecko, and now one on my desk going back monday.

I ruined one G540. Turned out two of my DB9 connector pins were arching inside of the Db9 connector due to a bad solder job. I'd check you wiring.

You know, that may be a possibility, as I have motors that came Pre-engineered with db9 connectors on them and the resistor pre-soldered in. However, I have in my infinite wisdome and abrupt clumsiniess (SP) tripped over them and pulled the little pins out of the connectors a few times.

I bought some Ez-g540 connectors off the internet last night, I am going to redo the db9 connectors, and finish my e-chain so I don't kick the wires out anymore

Those EZ-G540 connectors are NICE, and a set of FOUR for $16 is a great deal! For those who haven't seen them, go to EZ-G540 and look them up. It is pronounced 'so-i-gin-er-us', and Jeff Birt is a nice guy to deal with.

I would also recommend checking your wiring. Generally the things that will take one out are repeated shorts between output pins or disconnecting the motor while powered up. Another way to kill one might be to put a switch between the power supply and G540 (only switch the AC side not DC).

I have it whupped now, Dan made me a box, and brit mailed my ezconnectors yesterday. all I should have to do is turn it on, hopefully it won't be grounded against my shop table. I thought I had a welder going there for a second.

Soon I may have to sell it for scrap ;P

I gotta give PROPS to the folks over at Gecko, they fixed both of them and didn't charge me a dime. I hope ow that I have the drive enclosed in a case, with all the wires and relays and thing hooked up right, thanks to Dan at Camtronics. Hopefully I can now get past the "Build" phase of theis thing and get on to the fun stuff!!
