You can't damage the G540 with the wrong port setting. Try bi directional, it should work.
Hi everyone
Just posted this over on the gecko yahoo forum, but thought I would hit you up as well.
Finally wired everything, and I think I got it set up right. I went to bring my computer over to the garage, and then found out while setting the bios and looking on the back, that I don't have a printer port. Crazy new technology. So I am trying to use an old IBM thinkpad till I get a computer this weekend.
I know the computer I am getting on loan on the weekend has a port, but I want to test things now (to excited!). The problem is I can get into the Bios and I can get to the place with the settings, but it doesn't have an EPP mode. It has ECP, bi-directional, and output only. I am googling think pads and such, so maybe I will find something. Any ideas on this problem?
I am wondering if I can at least test my set up and not damage the gecko g540? I don't plan on cutting or anything tonight, just want to see if it works and moves.
I know not to use laptops for a whole slew of reasons, this is just a test.
Cheers,
Jordan

Bi directional will not work you must use the EPP mode totherwise the G540 will not come out of the fault stage unless you either move the CP switch on the back of the G540 to the off position or you find a ECP setting in bios and add 470 ohm resistors to pins 1, 14,16 and `17
