This may be the wrong category but I'm not sure which one was the correct one to put it in. Greetings Gentlemen, I shall be brief with my issue with which I'm slightly concerned. I have 2m x 1.2m bed upon which a gantry of mass 100kg sits on BRH-20 ball raced bearings. My stepper driver is a Gecko 540 and I can use 1 of 2 ball screws, one being 25mm OD with 5mm pitch OR 25mm OD with 10mm pitch. Which ball screw should I use AND with which stepper motor? Thanks in advance for any help with this as it's starting to really frustrate me. cheers, paul |

| It depends on how fast you want to go, and how much force you need at that speed.

| With the 540 you get 2000 steps per revolution (200 step motor & 10x micro step), assuming direct drive which is cheap, simple, reliable and the low backlash. So the 5mm pitch you get 0.0025mm steps and the 10mm pitch gives you 0.005mm steps. Next you need to find out how fast you can reliably generate the steps, then you can calculate how fast you could go with each one. Then you look to see if there are motors available, that the 540 can drive at those speeds with your estimated load. |
