Connectors types G250/G251 and G540

Hi,

My first post here. This may have been brought up before, but I couldn’t find it.

I know the G540 has (4) G250 drives. Which type of header are they using on the G250 within the G540 (male or female)?

Also, can the G251 terminal block be removed by de-soldering, and replaced with an IDC header? My guess is the board has through holes for both types of connectors. The reason I ask is that I may first purchase a G250 drive, and then down the road purchase a G540 unit. It would be nice that if and when I go with the G540, I would have a spare drive in case of a single drive failure within the 540 down the road.

Thanks, Jim

I got my answer

Marcus responded by email - Thanks!

The G540 uses G250 boards with a male connector.

Still don't know about the G251 connector, but that is moot since I have ordered the G250M and I will have my answer when I see the 250 board

I wanted to order from Retromation, but something doesn't look right with the web site. Has anyone had luck with them? I may order the G540 down the road after evaluating the G250

I ordered my 251's through retro, got them in 6 days drop-shipped from Gecko themselves.

I would just go with the 540 if you dont already have a break out board.
