    G540 VFD Output with KBIC?

    Hello all,

I'm in the middle of a CNC router build, with a Sherline spindle and Gecko G540.

I see that the 540 has "0V to +10V opto-isolated analog output intended for use with VFD drives."

A year ago, when trying to control spindle speed on my Sherline mill with another brand of spindle control, I burned out my spindle controller and the 0-10v board because I didn't use an isolated power supply, and

Now, I've got it working on my Sherline lathe, and want speed control on the router as well. Will the Gecko handle this?

From what I have read I think it does exactly that. I think you still might need the kbic controller for the input. Did you use Homanns design for your Sherline? I run 1 of his boards on my Sherline and I also burned my first one out too. However I burned mine up hooking it up hot and bumping it up against something metal. Stupidity! Anyway the G540 does put out the correct signal to control speed.

I was (and, after a repair, AM ) using the CNC4PC C6 Spindle Speed Controller Card.
It has options for two different voltage inputs, one of them matched a power supply I had in the mill enclosure already, so I used it.
Crack, Fizzle, and I'd lost not only the C6, but my Control Techniques motor controller as well.
A year later, with new optoisolators in the C6, I finally put it to good use on a lathe.

I'd rather not burn out a Gecko and the router's Sherline controller if the Gecko can't handle it.

The gecko just supplies the signal voltage. Try an email to gecko if no answer here.

Yeah, that's all the C6 card does, tunable 1-10v out from a PWM signal in.
