    What can i do with a G540

    Hi,

Since having struggled with my g100 im considering a g540, my question is this, i have motors rated for 90v and 4.2A (steppers) i know i can get the voltage inside the limtis of a g540 by using the correct transformer but what about the current? Steppers are constant current so take the full 4.2A all the time right? But the G540 has a current setting resistor, would that limit the currrent and stop it destroying the g540? What effect would that have on my steppers? Thanks in advance.

    Matt

You can get 3.48K 1% resistors from DigiKey. Use those or standard 5% 3.3K resistors from Radio Shack and you will be fine as far as current limiting goes.

    Hi Matt.

The G540, with the 3.48K resistor, will limit the motor current to 3.48A. If you use a 48V PSU, the motor will run at 48V.

The lower Voltage will limit motor top speed somewhat. The lower Amperage will cause an 18% drop in torque. EG: If it's a 400 ounce motor, then it will detune to 331 ounces.
