Just got my G540, no one has an answer? | | Mariss or others, I just received my G540 and have a few questions prior to gutting my machine tomorrow. I would like to do a few things that I have seen but dont really see how to hook them up or if it ok with a gecko.
The first being a load meter, on Bob Warfields site I believe he shows a digital ammeter being used as a load meter (actually 1 for each axis) I could settle for an analog meter if that made a difference but would rather use digital. Is this ok? And if yes I would think this would be hooked up between the stepper and the controller. I will wait to see if it is ok before I ask more on that topic.
I would like to do the same with the power supply to see if there is any variance under load, no real reason besides the Wow factor and I would think that would connect between my power supply and the G540. Come on envision a single car garage, 6 motorcycles, 1 bicycle, Sherline cnc lathe, Sherline Cnc Mill, Dyna 2400 mill and a Dyna 3000 lathe with a full enclosure, flood coolant, an air powered door and 6 position tool changer? You could see why I would need a fancy control center!
Lastly, I would like to run 2 relays from the g540 and I understand how to make those work but my question is can I run a manual switch to trigger the relay and use a diode to eliminate the chance of back feeding the G540?
Any clarification on the implementation of a tach in Mach and or speed control via Mach would be great. On my Sherline I used a Digispeed board built specifically for that machine. I know he made many other boards. The motor is a SEM MT30 148 vdc which I believe has an onboard tacho sensor of some kind. Though if it has it at the motor it wouldnt have the correct ratio or rpm.
