    Default G540 VFD Output issue

    G'day!

I'm trying to get my G540 to control the spindle on a SX2 mini mill through the LMS breakout board (CNC Spindle Control Upgrade Kit for SX2, SC2 230V 4950 - LittleMachineShop.com).

So far I've managed to verify that:
    • The LMS board works (wired up the simplest connection, turned the potentiometer to tweak spindle RPM)
    • LinuxCNC can output a 50Hz PWM signal to the G540 (checked with an oscilloscope at both ends of the DB25)
    • The wiring is correct (checked multiple times)
    • The F/R and Start/Stop signals from LinuxCNC to the breakout board through the G540 work (tested with a multimeter at the G540 12-pin terminal block)

But the VFD Output (pin 8 on the terminal block) shows no output voltage at any RPM setting on LinuxCNC.

    Nick
I'm having the same issue that I'm after help with
I have the huanyang1.5kw VFD with water cooled spindle that I have just upgraded to.
I have the spindle starting up ok via a relay from pin5 from the Geck540
My issue is the same as yours, I cannot get a variable voltage out of pin 8 from the g540
I'm using windows7 with Mach3 through the parallel port.
My VFD outputs 10v that is connected to pin9 on g540 and GND is connected to pin7 on g540 but nothing comes out of pin8
I can adjust the spindle rpm via the control knob just not through mach3

    Any help would be appreciated

    Hey!

I wonder if it's a problem with the optocoupler for the VFD circuit. Everything else seems to be working fine.

Found this video that explains the setup ok

I think my gecko540 is toast on pin 9 as no matter what I do I cannot get any variation in voltage from that pin.

I have got mine working, seems the g540 is not toast after all.
    What I found .
VFD outputs 10v to pin 9 on the g540
    G540 pin 7 is ground
So you would think to measure the voltage between pin 7 and pin 8(variable voltage out on the G540) however this gives no reading on the multimeter.
If you measure the voltage between pin 9 and pin8 on the g540 this gives a variable voltage reading.

    Hope this is of help
    Mike
