The Gecko .xml is for use with a parallel port. If you can get the ESS working with Mach3, then you need to manually setup the appropriate port and pin numbers.
I'm a total new guy here! I have mach3 and trying to setup my twig 4 axis CNC. I am totally lost! Setup as follows:
Gecko G540 based cnc controller with 4 axis control box from deepgroove1, 270oz nema 23 motors, warp 9 ethernet smooth stepper, and P2-S USB mpg pendant.
I can get the computer to talk to the ESS stepper, but not to the gecko if I open the file that has everything setup for the gecko, then it won't talk to the ESS.

The ESS is just a fancy Breakout. It has two (actually three)26 pin ports taht have the same pinput as a conventional parallel port. you use PORT1 on the ESS and assign the same port and pins to the outputs. If you can run the G540 with a conventional parallel port then the same settings should work in the ESS profile. Because the ESS is a general interface card it just converts an Ethernet data stream to hard pins on the POrt1 and port 2 connectors on the ESS board. What those pins do is defined but the settings in MACH/
