g540 need more inputs!!!

Hello,
I am in the middle of converting a mill and ran out of inputs. I understand i could install another parallel port to gain more my question is how. I install the second port make sure i have the addresses right then what. Do i use another breakout board to connect to the mill. I see i could use pins 2-9 as inputs but how are they wired? Maybe a dumb question but i can't find any info on the topic.

Yes you would need a break out board does not need to be anything fancy opto couplers would be good. Or you could try to be more efficient with what you got. Don't know whether you've don this but you could consider wiring a limit switches to the same input in series NC, could even include them in the E-stop circuit if you wanted to.....

May I ask why? I'm asking because on the input config screen on mach3 it says "Pins 10-13 and 15 are inputs. Only these 5 pin numbers may be used on this screen."

Could add a CNC Drive UC300 ETH. it will give you 5 parallel ports ( 2 x regular and 3 input heavy). It also provides analog ports etc;
