Most of the G code descriptions we’ve seen on the Internet have been pretty much the same. This is because they have been derived from the same public domain source, the original 1972 NIST project (ref: http://www.isd.mel.nist.gov/document...rd/4191_05.pdf). From reports of our customers it’s clear that there was plenty of room for confusion in those descriptions. We’ve recently completed a project to extend the descriptions with additional discussion, adding graphics and example codes. While the work is copyrighted, we have put it online in order to make it available to all. It’s at http://www.tormach.com/machine_codes.html. The example files can be downloaded individually or as a set (http://www.tormach.com/document_library/codes/codes.zip). For those with hobby sites or blogs, please feel free to post the URL. | My Gcode bible for years has been a very old dog eared yellow Fanuc 6M Gcode manual. Must be 25 years old now. This write up is far better, great job. You might want to add the caveat that this is for tormach machines. No such thing as standard set of gcodes anymore. For example, my machine and many others have an option for absolute arc centers for G2/G3. And the canned cycles aren't the same. maybe someone else would like to take on lathes? Karl |

While it is for Tormach mills, it's been tested on Mach3 which has a pretty strong base here on CNC Zone. The core of Mach3 has it's roots in the original EMC code, where several other authors have taken their interpreter from, so I think the descriptions will be effective for most PC based controllers including EMC, EMC2, Mach3, CNC Brain, TurboCNC, and several others.
