It is one of the many G-Codes I have never used. G22 is the stored Stroke Limit. It forms a Barrier like the Mazak Chuck Barrier, actually annoying to me but others find it to be useful.
Think of it as a Limiting Box where you can't go anywhere outside the box or inside the box depending on how you set it.
In your case your using a Lathe so you can use it to protect the Chuck or Tail Stock.
You would be surprised how may machinist's never use this function.
Hope this adds a little understanding to the previous post.
G22 can be a useful tool.
