If you can think it, you can probably parametricly program it.

Fanuc is just about a bullet proof control, as are others that are very goo, Fadal, Haas, etc.
The other thing I loved about Bridgeport, that I really despise about the others, is that with the Boss 8 & up controls, everything is included, with the exception of digitizing.
All canned cycles, rotation, scaling, etc, were all included in the program. These features all other manufacturers charge an exorbitant fee to activate.
    Much like Windows operating systems.

I am running an older model cnc machine and I am trying to figure out how to write a parametric program for a door (303mm x 765mm) that has an arch. The arch's center point needs to be 62mm from the end of the board.... Everytime I make my board wider I want to write a parametric program so that the arch will expand with the board but the center point stay at 62mm....can someone help me

It would help to know what control it is. Some of the older controls won't except brackets. And if Fanuc, does it use Macro A or Macro B?

Sorry that I can't help you. I am only familiar with Macro programming Fanuc controls. I should have also added in my previous post that at least one Fanuc control won't accept THEN either.

i don't know syntax for your control but i can help you with the math.
First thing to do is to calculate radius of the arch.

    R=sqrt[width/2*width/2+62*62]

after that the toolpath for contouring is: (i assume you start on x0 y0 and you use tool radius compensation)

    G01 Y(WIDTH)
    X(LENGHT-RADIUS)
    G03 X(LENGHT-RADIUS) Y0 R(RADIUS)
    G01 X0

MAYBE I DON'T UNDERSTAND EXACTLY WATH YOU WANT TO DO BUT HERE IS A PICTURE OF WATH I THINK YOU WANT TO DO.

Learning macro programming (Custom Macro B)

Beginners may read the following book

    http://www.mhprofessional.com/produc...sbn=0071713328

It assumes no previous experience with macro programming, now would any external help in the form of any other book or instructor would be needed.

Its current price (new book) is nearly lowest in recent times; only $7.61 (as on 18 April 2012):

Just the right time to grab it, in case somebody is interested.

    Just did!

I started with macros because it seemed silly not to learn all the tools available in the machine. And I wanted to eliminate alot of the repetative code.

    Nice.

    Thanks.

I know what they are and use them for deep hole drilling on a lathe with G65 but I have not witten my own. I think I'll pick that book up.

Now the Kindle edition of this book is also available:
http://www.amazon.com/Programming-using-Fanuc-Custom-ebook/dp/B008MOFTWA/ref=tmm_kin_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1341719441&sr=8-2]CNC Programming using Fanuc Custom Macro B: S.K Sinha: Amazon.com: Kindle Store
At $44.61, the price, however, is much higher than the minimum price of its print version ($10.29 plus $3.99 shipping), as on 04 Aug 2012.
