    Peck Drilling Help

    I have a Victor CNC TNS-3 with a 10T operating system.

The G83 code I use on the HAAS HL-2 we also have does not work on the Victor. I tried the G74 code and it works but I would like for it to retract to the front of the part after each peck.

Thanks for any and all help.

Contact g-codeguy about a drilling macro (subprogram) he's talked about recently. G74 isn't going to do what you want. Hardinge (way back when) created their own drilling macro because the G74 didn't do what needed to be done, and they saw that before selling machines that used it. I have one version of that program, but I think (g-codeguy) has a better version.

Well the G83 code was this.....

    G83 Z-1.7 Q.2 R.1 F22. But alarmed out with an Improper G code.

This is the line of code from the manual...

    G74 X_ Z_ I_ K_ F_ D_

    I tried G74 Z-1.7 K.2 D ( wasn't sure what to put here ) and F22

G74 is new to me so not real sure how to program it.

IIRC, G83, G87, etc. cycles were an option that wasn't activated on those machines. My guess is that macros were an option that didn't get turned on, either. You may have to use the G74.

Not sure which specs you need but here goes.

    7/8 Hex 304 SS, 11/64 drill, 1000RPM.

If thats not what you need, let me know what your looking for.

And I am fine using G74 if I can get the drill to back out of the part entirely instead of a chip break.

G74 won't give you that option you'll probably have to write it longhand.

I am doing that now, although I am hoping someone might be able to help me out. Either with the G74 or with something else that will work.

I can write a macro to do that for you. The only problem is its hard to troubleshoot a macro when I can't see what its doing. Also do you know if you can run custom macros on your control. Third I can give you the macro that gcodeguy has that was mentioned earlier but I haven't had a chance to look at it and see what exactly it does, don't know if it will work for you. Let me know if you can use macros on your machine and I'll see what I can come up with.

I really have no idea if it can run macros, let alone know what they are. First time I had ever heard of them was on here and still don't know or understand them.

goto mdi on your control type in #100=1. If nothing happens you have macros if it throughs an alarm you don't.
