G84 (ridgid tapping) on Mitsu 50L controller

I have a Daewoo Lynx with a Mitsubishi M50L controller, I am trying to rigid tap a 1/4 NPT, 18 TPI.

The material is Delrin (Acetel), and im going super slow just to prove it out. Here is what I am running for a program right now.

G54
T0202 (1/4 NPT TAP)
G50S100
G97S25M3
G00X0.0Z.1
G84G98R.1X0.0Z-.5F1.3888
G40
G99
G28U0.0W0.0
T0200
M30

I have tried to run the feed in inch per rev and the results were worse, so I am running IPM. Its close, but still seems to strip out the threads.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

Buy me a Beer?

I don't know whether it will make a difference, but I suspect you do not need the G98, the G84 together with the F value should synch the spindle encoder/speed.

Your tapping at way too slow of an rpm. If the speed is to slow some controls get jittery in syncing the axis and spindle speeds. I try to never rigid tap at anything less than 250rpm, I mostly tap at 500-1000rpm, 500 rpm for larger course threads and 1000rpm for the smaller finer threads. Try changing your rpm to 500 and your feed rate to 27.7777 ipm. Are you using coolant? Just some thoughts, hope this helps.

I was looking at your program and I would take the "M03" out and go back to a G99 . And I'm not sure how you came up with the feed for that tap. Your feed for a 1/4 pipe should be ".0555" The G84 will start the spindle. But it won't start until the tap is almost to the part. If you get an alarm there are four parameters that need to be changed. I just went through this problem on a brand new Mori Seiki NL2500 with a Mitsubishi control.

our daewoo requires a m29 with the spindle speed before the g84 line to activate rigid tap, per the previous reply your you are better off tapping in IPR letting the machine calculate the feed from the programmed RPM
