G code problems, any help appreciated

I have built an operating "joe's 2006 model" and am using mach3 software.I just cannot my dxf drawings to G code ,some direction would be appreciated .

My current project involves sinking several "pockets",I think thats the term, into a lumbercore drawer bottom. The pockets house butlers tray hinges. I have included a drawing showing the shape of the pocket. the hinges are 3" long and 1 1/2" wide, they are not oblong but have semicircular ends [1 1/2" radius] any would be appreciated...regards mike hide

What are you using to convert them? LazyCAM? You might want to tru the demo of SheetCAM and see if it does what you need. Not as cheap as LazyCAM, but it'll work.

One thing I noticed is that you need to work on your CAD skills. If the hinge is 1-1/2" x 3", then shouldn't the radius be 3/4". I drew what I think is the correct size and added it to your drawing.

Thanks Ger .Point taken regarding my CAD difficiencies. Yes I have been trying lazycam with very little luck. As you suggested I will give SheetCAM a try and see if I can get that to work. If It works I will see about purchasing it.

I have spent considerable time developing Gcode for some items and realize as a novice it is very time consuming and requires absolute accuracy if a perfect item is required on the first try......thanks again, regards mike hide

    CAD Help

    Mike,

I don't know about your converter, but your dxf likely needs to be closed so the converter can make the pocket.

In your DXF the top line is not touching either arc.

You will also likely need to move the location of the pocket to 0,0,0 for convinence in setting up the job.

Your location says Fulton. If that's Atlanta, send me a PM and I might be able to help you in person.

Thanks for thw reply . Yes I am in the Atlanta area and very new to this subject . I live about a mile from Lennox square [the place where my wife spends all our money].

Ger kindly corrected My CAD difficiencies and posted a good CAD drawing and suggested using EdgeCAM.I am downloading the trial version now.

I have been operating on my own from the start on this project so if you are in the vicinity at any time I would be pleased to meet with you.I have never used the messenger thing so I am going to have to get my daughter to help on that [the local computer genious.....regards mike hide
