Easy solve

Simple to do plot cordinates with auto cad it will give X and Y all you need to do is add z and your G&M codes for your machine it is the best way I have found to do this in 10 years.

davc,

Check out NCPlot v2, it will convert DXF to G-Code and can also save a G-Code plot as DXF.

Scott

Hi Davc,

You might wish to look at VCarve Pro which opens most vector file formats - DXF, EPS, AI, PDF and converts the geometry to GCode and most other standard CNC code formats. The software automatically compensates for the cutter radius and shape when 2D Pocket and Profile machining and includes some very useful options such as Tabs / Bridges to hold pieces in place during cutting.

There's a Free Trial version that you can use to test that your own files can be opened correctly by VCarve Pro.

See > www.vectric.com

VCarve Pro also includes very powerful engraving and vcarving machining strategies, plus realistic toolpath simulation and 3D preview that shows exactly what a design will look like when machined.

Training Video Tutorials and documentation can also be downloaded from the web site.

I hope this might be interesting,

Tony Mac

Well VCarvePro is next on my purchase list, Im trying to decide whether to buy one at a time or save for a while longer and buy the 3 programs as a package.
davc you should download the VCarvePro trial, it really is an excellent program. Im not affiliated to Vcarve in any way, haven't even bought the program yet, but the trial won me over!
I haven't tried ncplot or Ace, but I intend to give them a look while Im saving for the Vcarve package.

So dertsap.....can Inkscape generate G-Code? thanks...

sorry brain fart inkscape won t create gcode

might be worth looking at bobcad with bobart ,if your willing to pay what vcarve is charging for their software ,bobcad would be comparable in price ,
not to say one is better than the other but if your going to spend the money you'd be best to check your options

Dertsap good buddy,

You forgot to mention that BobCAD will do full 3 Axis and 4 Axis Engraving with Text. Not to mention the wide range of Support options available.
