hello how would one g-code a plasma cutter to simply cut two 2.25 inch holes, 47.75 inches from each other, without the "shape manger" wanting to do a oustider perimeter cut....as the part has already been sheared to correct outside dimensions? the part outside dimension is 11.25" x 50" rectangle hole 1 = X 1.125, Y 5.625 hole 2 = X 48.875, Y 5.625 on 3/16 mild steel at 80amps, Air/O2 on new Accur-Kut Plasma Cutter Table...as the "shape manager" wants to cut the 2 holes then run to the outside and cut the perimeter...and i gotta stop it before it does that on each part....bah and i seen today you can edit the program itself...muahaha....just all the g20 this and m99 stuff made my head spin.... (btw i am machining ignorant, and the head machinist has taken/got the time to fix the program or teach me much about the plasma and programming) thanks in advance for any help |

| When I have a new program, that I want to edit. First I make a copy of the program (Text File). Run the program and watch the code as it's running. When you get to the point that you think the program should be changed (watching the code and the part be cut, at the same time) write down the entire line of code, stop the program (Reset), go to the programs code (Text File), Now instead of changing the actual code, just comment out the code you do not want to use. Go back and run the same program from the Start. Run it slow, and watch it very close in case you have to stop it. Also keep watching the code and part while it's running. You may have to make some small edits in the code, but it sounds to me that you already have all the code you need. It helps to understand how to program basic things (small programs). If the machine is new, you should have some manuals with it to help you out, use them often. I work with a lot of people that run cnc machines, that don't understand the first thing about G-code, If only they would read a manual they would make their life so much easier. When I first started cnc I read the basic and advanced manuals cover to cover at least ten times (everyone at work thought I was nuts), most of it made no sense at first, but while watching the control run the code I learned a lot, and the books started making sense. It's funny now to watch the expressions on the face of everyone that thought I was nuts for reading all those manuals, while they stand beside me, while I edit/write programs (5-axis cnc tool-grinder). They act like its magic. POOOF!! If you don't get your program running like you want, post it here as .TXT file. Remember go very slow with the feed rate till you get the code like you want it. Good luck ![]() .
