I was just wondering if I could get someone to checkout a program that I have been working on in My spare time. Not sure if the program is worth spending more time on it or not. Maybe I could get some input from you guys. You can simply design the tooth profile of a gear to the shape of your desire then turn it into G-Code. I could use someone to test out the g-code if they wanted to. Please make any sugestions about the program that you want to. Of coarse I have limited time to work on it since I have to work for a living. The program isn't finished yet, but I uploaded a demo for anyone to try. Thanks in advance! Gary

Hey!! Very nice work!! Here is a few things: (when you have the time...hehehe). 1). Put in a help file, and perhaps a tutorial on how to use the program, and what those terms mean.......people like me, who want to cut a gear, but never have, would like to understand what we are doing and why. 2). I suspect the program is for spur gears only, since it looks like it is from a profile only perspective, no 4th axis stuff. 3). Put in options for the users to put in stuff for thier machines, initial states, Tool change codes, coolent on/off, and ending states. So when ever you post your tool path, the program will append these things automatically. 4). I am a Mach3 user, and your program would make a fantastic "Wizard" to add to the programs already long list of customer wizards. Some of the users even "sell" their wizards. Most of it is done in VB script, (this is just a thought, if you use mach3). 5). Is there a way to make a "template" for: Internal gears in a ring, and/or a way to set a Taper so you can make bevel gears?? (again perhaps a thought for the future if you persue this. 6). I like the work you have done, it is great to have people of your skill contributing here, since there are probably alot of folks like myself who wish they could do what you do..... Good luck, Scott

Gary, I know this is an old thread but I think it should be brought up to date and more people introduced to your program. Thanks for your work, thus far. Greg

I'm wondering if this isn't one of those great ideas that sort of lost it's steam. If so, that's too bad as this could be a nice little program. You can go to http://www.qtcgears.com/ and they have the gears in drawing formats for download. Might be easier than desiging your own. Greg

Hay! Thanks for the interest in the gear program. My computer totally crashed back around the time I first posted it and I lost all of the source code. I have recovered some of the code but I would have to rewrite the program. I just haven't had the time to do so. I may sit down one of these days and just do it. Gary

I made a few changes to the code & hope to get it posted here on the zone, soon. . |
