    G71 CANNED CYCLE

We machine alot of inconel. we have started using ceramics which work great, but each pass has to be at a diffrent depth of cut. is there anyway to vary the depth of cut in the G71 cycle. i have had to go back to line by line programming which is very bothersome and time consuming. Ceramics tend to be a picky bread by nature. for example if i took a depth that was .005 to deep it requires a complete program change. NOT COOL!! if there is any suggestions please let me know.

    urgghh. inconel is bad stuff.
On our inconel jobs we used to use Iscar IC907 inserts with good tool life. thankfully we don't do that B.S. anymore.

if you want tool control you must program the cuts long-hand.
but why do you need to change the depth of cut? just rough it then finish it with a different tool and play with the offset until you achieve your size.

Probably because he doesn't want to notch the insert. Should translate to longer tool life. Same thing can happen with carbide inserts.

jking, I'm sure you already know from the previous replies that the answer to your question is "No".

A crude way of doing what he wants is to use several independent G71 cycles after splitting the cut diameter into several parts. Each G71 can use different DOC.

We've used kennametal CNMG 432s KC5010 with some success in the past, but it all depends on which grade of inco you're cutting, imho.
    No, really, just my .002"
