I do not believe that you can. What type of control are you using? Why would you want to peck on this cycle?? Why not just use G73 or G83?

Hey, can you peck with a G82. I want to use the dwell (P) address for chamfering, but was wondering if I can use a Q address and peck too. I was under the impression that the G82 format doesn't include a Q address.
Thanks

Fanuc controls. I typically counter sink using G73, a slow speed of about S350, a slow feed of about F1.5, and small peck of about Q.015. Those are my go to parameters at the moment and they usually work fine with a sharp tool.
A guy at work was struggling getting a descent counter sink the other day, and some other guys were telling him to add a dwell of about P1000 or so, hence the G82 cycle. I was convinced his problems were related to his setup, but thats neither here nor there. Anyway, I made the point that you can't peck with a G82, and other folks thought you could.
So just for ghits and siggles, I added a Q address to a G82 cycle and ran it. It didn't alarm out and ran, but to be honest with you I couldn't tell if it was pecking or not. I sould have used a larger peck to experiment with, and overrode the feed to slow it down enough to seed, but didn't have time to mess with it.
So, the G82 cycle ran with a Q address, but I'm still not certain it pecked.
And there ya' have it.
My guess would be that it did not peck. The G82 line will except the Q value without alarm but may not run it pecking. I do this in my macros all the time. I allow the operator to select the drill cycle that they want to use and in the macro line there is a Q value. If he uses a peck he can set the Q. If he chooses to not peck by using a G82 or 81 then he just sets Q0.

Probably the easiest way to accomplish this is to make a custom G code or macro. Start with the code for a G83 and add the dwell on the appropriate line. Or, if possible, edit the G83 to add the dwell.
Surely you could get the desired effect just by using a G83 followed by a G82.

Geoff beat me to it. Ditto.
Yup. I was pretty darn sure watching the operation that I wasn't seeing any pecking going on. So, I have officially established to my own satifaction that G82 don't peck.
But Caprirs may have inadvertantly raised the flip side of my question. I'm thinking this is a typo:
Start with the code for a G83 and add the dwell on the appropriate line. Or, if possible, edit the G83 to add the dwell.
Because G73/G83 don't dwell, right?
Depends on who wrote the macro for G83 in your machine. Generally, G83 will not have a dwell.

Gotchya. Guess it all depends...
