I have no problem calculating the deg/min feed on a 4th axis when it is a path along the same X on a vertical mill. Now with a helix, the circumference is going to be longer. Is there a constant value that I can use to accommodate for the length of helix? Also when posting in Gibbs with the same parameters, the posted feed rate is half what I calculate....not sure why.
Mentally "unroll" the helix and calculate it in 2d. For 1 revolution rotary distance is the circumference, and the pitch is the linear distance. You now have two of the 90 deg sides of a triangle. Calculate the 3rd length and you can likewise break up your feeds into proportional values. Look into added vector math for more.
