Resequence thread from oldest to newest post?

Most of the forums I subscribe to have the initial post on page 1 item 1. I find it confusing when reading a lengthy thread and noting I was on page, oh lets say 10, and come back in a couple of days and my page 10 is all differenct because the newer posts are added to the front end. Have I missed something here or is there an option that will show a thread from oldest to newest, rather than from newest to oldest? Reading backwards sucks.

I don't see a ""settings and options" on the left" but I do see a "display modes"

I've tried all three options, but still find it frustrating. Often I seem to find myself on a page showing only the last post, with no link to the previous page. It may just be me, but this seems different from other forums.

There doesn't seem to be an option for "basic". Where it displays the posts from the first to the last, and there's always a link to go to the previous or next page.

Like I said, it might be just me, but I find the format frustrating at times.
