Flash in the forum

I was wondering if it was possible to make it so we could post Flash in the forum. There would be several advantages to doing this. Instead of having a bulky gif to do an animation you could do the same with Flash. A typical example of a gif compared with flash is 15k for Flash, 300k for a gif. Not to mention that flash will give a better picture. This would save on bandwidth.
People could use flash for their avatars instead of gifs also, again saving bandwidth.

Interesting idea. I think there might be compatabillity issues. For instance; I don't use flash in my browser. I enable very little java as well.

If you believe Macromedia, they say that 96% of browsers have flash. Every instalation of exploer since IE4 has flash as standard.

If an individual desides to not alow flash or java then that is his choice and he misses out because of his choice. I am not sure if everyone should miss out because a few have chosen not to alow flash.

You mention only alowing some Java apps. Java is a known risk.
I have never heard of flash as a risk. Macromedia cant afford to have it a risk. The worst I can think of flash doing, is auto launching another browser window. We could have rules about the flash contents. If the flash content contravened the rules it would be removed.
I have seen flash in other forums and it seems fine.

Maybe the inclusion of a sound file in flash might be one of those things that you could rule out. But even then I can think of how cool it would be to hear the whining sound of servos/steppers in action.

Remember the days of the internet when all there was was static text. Informative but very boring. The internet is an evolving medium. Isnt it fun to keep up with all the technical advancements? After all, isnt that what we are about, keeping up with new ideas and ways to do things?

Its a bit like TV. Why should they broardcast in color because there are a few who only have black and white recievers.

In reading back this post, it may seem to be a like a putdown. I have not written it with that intention. It is more just an argument to state my case.
