Please note that EdgeCAM has nothing to do with SmartCAM. The two products have no relationship at all. EdgeCAM was created by Pathtrace. www.pathtrace.com Hope this helps, jon |

| Ok John, But I'm lost, what does that have to do with anything? And why would it be posted under "Problems and Suggestions? Did I miss something? Is someone asking if the two are the same? Anybody?

I don't think SmartCAM is actively sold anymore. Here is the history of SmartCAM as I know it. (Hope I don't bore you to tears.) :>) Originally developed by Point Control. Point Control was acquired by CAMAND who had an advanced surface machining product called CAMAX. CAMAND was then acquired by SDRC who needed to keep thier main customer Ford Motor Company happy and to do this they needed to develop a decent CAM product where the one they had was sub par. SDRC had no real interest in SmartCAM and they were mainly interested in the developers who wrote CAMAX so that they could give IDEAS (their CAD/CAM product) a much stronger CAM. SDRC was then acquired by UG Solutions (Unigraphics) who then changed thier name to I think EDS PLM Solutions. Most of this should be correct or close enough. Did you follow all that ? ;>) I have heard a rumor that EDS PLM Solutions is building a new Parasolid (their Geometry kernel that is sold separately to companies like SolidWorks and is the heart of Unigraphics.) based SmartCAM. I hope the above helps rather than confuse. IMO SmartCAM was way, way ahead of it's time. It is now dated however especially for 3 axis surfacing. It is still very much viable for 2 and 2 1/2 axis work. jon |

Thanks. In time perhaps users of EdgeCAM may want to have a forum. I only know of a few people that use EdgeCAM but from what I have seen of it, it is a very good product. jon |
