I have an old flashcut setup running flashcut 1.11 on a model 401 control box... I would like to run newer software, as 1.11 is lacking quite a few features. Flashcut tells me I can't use any newer software without giving them $300 for a newer chip for the control box or $1300 for a new box. Is there any way to use my current setup with newer software? $300 for a $2 chip with some newer programming seems a bit excessive. Can the chips be reprogrammed? (I haven't pulled their sticker off yet to see what's under it) Does anyone have a broken control box they'd part with cheaply that would have the right chip? I'm starting to grow rather unhappy with flashcut's product support... Charging a lot for the hardware and software is one thing, but charging a lot for almost-no-cost modifications and replacement for a near-useless software version (they won't even upgrade me from 1.11 to 1.6 for less than $300, even though they're about to release version 4!) feels like wringing customers for every penny they can... Thanks, --Bushytails |

| Sorry to hear that you're having problems with FlashCut support. My experience has been the opposite. When I upgraded from version 2 to 3, I needed a whole new board which they sent to me without charge. They trusted me to return the old one. I had my system for less than a year so that was part of their support deal. I suppose I would have been charged for a hardware upgrade if more than a year had elapsed. Last week, FlashCut helped me upgrade from version 3.0.12 to 3.0.15. This wasn't so simple because I had to install version 3.0.14 first and reprogram my chip before I could install version 3.0.15. I have found FlashCut technical support to be knowledgeable, accessible, friendly, and helpful. |
