It seems like he posted some photos somewhere but I'm not sure where I saw those. Here's the link to the R&P upgrades so maybe there are photos on his site - https://www.finelineautomation.com/a...pinion-changes

What specifically are you looking to have answered? I just ran mine on the Saturn 2 the other night, I might be able to answer your question.

I don't really know where to start. I have 4 sensors, but I am trying to check both ends of 3 axis, that seems to take 6 sensors not 4. There are no holes on the rig except on the x axis, so I will need to drill and tap some holes along the path.

Also, the pictures on the website show the sensors that rake along the surface of the blocks, vs just running straight into them.

so I guess I am just asking for the instructions on where to put them. I am sure I could fiddle with it to get it working, but I would rather go from plans if Nate had done the work to get them positioned in the best way, vs me just drilling holes until I find the right way to do it...

any help you can provide would be appreciated.

    thanks.

I’ll get some drawings for you shortly on the hole locations and mount points.

You only need 4 sensors because the sensor will trigger on both ends.

I'm using 5, fwiw. Y+, Y-, X+, X-, and Z+. Z- is set by the tool height on the work piece (or wherever your Z zero is set). If it were to take off on its own and go crashing in the Z- direction it would bottom out the bit and likely break it before it ever reached a sensor at the true bottom of the Z travel.

Here is a video that details the proximity switch mounting. I've also attached all of the drawings that detail the dimensions the holes need to be tapped. I've boxed the holes that you need with red boxes. The holes are normally M5 holes but you can tap them for #10 if that is more convenient. If you have any questions, let me know.

I had to flip the orientation of the x-axis mounting tab, when I mounted it in the original orientation the z-axis sensor would hit the back of the cable.

Thanks for posting the photos, liqfire. Our Saturn came in with the two mounting brackets for Z and X switched - they appear to be mirror images with regards to mounting holes. The X mounting bracket as it came would not allow the sensor to get any closer than about 3/4" from the target.

alrighty Nate, got everything tapped as per the specs you sent (thank you by the way, very helpful). but I have a problem. on the x axis the blocks are perfectly positioned. However the sensors trip along the middle of the gantry travel due to some large hex head bolts in the middle of the tram that are pretty much alighed with the sensor blocks. See attached picture. I don't know what they are attached to or why they are there. Did I do something wrong? do I just remove them from the gantry?

    Thanks.

You can just remove them. The holes are there in case you want to fill the gantry with sand or foam for additional weight.
