anyone with tips on programming a rigid tap on a Fadal 60/30 with a 88hs contoller?

I've goten conflicting "advise" on min. clearance plane, using a G84.2 before the G84.1 and even coolant concentration so I thought I would ask someone who has acutally used it.

Hi:
G84.1=Flexible tap cycle(floating holder) specifying thread Pitch (1/tpi)
G84.2= Flexible tap cycle (floating holder) specifying thread TPI (threads/inch)
I can see no benefit or preference, other than we'd be less likely to make a calculation error if we input the TPI. With a floating tap holder, (please verify with the manufacturers suggestions) you just need to touch off like any other tool. The floating tap holders allow for some tension and compression. As far as the coolant concentration is concerned, that is dependant on the coolant properties, and of course the material you are tapping.

Using rigid tapping on Fadals you dont need the floating tap holders.The machines are rated to rigid tap from 500-1500 rpm.I dont even use tap holders just normal collets really tight.Have tapped upto 16mm diameter ok.Make sure your fadal has rigid tapping as some of the old ones don't.If you want me to email you a rigid tapping program for a fadal no problem just mail me seperate.Regards Ciaran.
