snapping to imported geometry

I have just downloaded featurecam 2008. I am playing with a parasolid file.

I am looking to machine a part using a hole to locate the Wcs. I have the snap set to the pick center but it will not pick at center.

How do you pick the center of a curve on a imported part?

I don't know if you solved this but you probably did by now. Are you still interested? There are several different ways....

My way is after importing the geometry as a new FC file, just exit out of the Setup Wizard, and then do a Surface Projection -> All surfaces -> Keep geometry.
Then restart the setup wizard and now you're able to snap to the center points.

I'm sorry I forgot all about you! I did a complete system rebuild from the F/disk & I haven’t reloaded my Feature Cam yet. But Seymour is right. I use that method religiously, it works great!

surface projection ?

Hi Folks,
I'm new to the solids in FC. I have also had trouble snapping to some types of imported solids. Could you explain the surface projection method further please?

Thanks,

Dan

Sure you click on the curves icon on the left of the screen, then create curves using the curves wizard, then on the top of the pop up window there are 3 choices, you click the 2nd on down (curve from surface), then click on surface projections. The wizard will then walk you through a conditioning process. I just click next then when you get the popup asking you to keep geometry say yes. Then the wizard burns all surface lines into the z surface of the stock in a 2-d generation. Plus the 3-d part still there as well.

My favorite for this would be to let FC recognize the hole features ...If you have recognition
New Feature/Hole from dim/recognize box checked/
then align UCS and setup to the feature
I have found this quick and easy

also if you have a curve to pick center it needs to be geometry simply click from the pulldown construct-curve-to grometry then snap object of center will be visible be sure you have your curve preselected!
