Afternoon, I have recently been exposed to a rather interesting concept called "Higbee Threading". I understand the concept and agree that it works but trying to get FeatureCam to accomplish this is... well... a trick. The process, if you are not already familiar with it, requires the use of a standard turning tool ( preferrably a grooving tool ) to come back in after the threading tool has run and, running in a threading canned cycle, remove the leading "waste" that is established when cutting threads. The idea of using the threading cycle keeps the grooving tool in sync with the threads and therefore, if the length of cut (one thread length) and depth of cut are set correctly on the grooving tool, it effectively removes ONLY unneeded material. The question is, how can you get the software to run a grooving tool in a canned threading cycle on a 45 degree angle so we can see the visual representation of this process? Thanks for any input on this matter. |

| Higbees are used on fire hydrant couplings, thread plugs and rings. The gage guys call it convoluting. I doubt that you can see it on FCam. I've done an OD thread on the lathe and then removed the first full thread or half thread with a small grooving tool but I'm not aware of anything in FCam that would let you sync one thread cycle start to another thread cycle start.
