Help with FANUC 18i-mb rs232 connection.

I've tried to get the rs232 interface to work, all settings are OK (or at least thats what I think). I'm using SDNC II (comes with surfcam), I can download the program in the machine but when I start the execution there is a buffer overflow alarm.

Im using 4800 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, even parity bit, Xon/Xoff handshaking. I've read many cases where the problem was solved using handshaking but I've tried all and there is still a buffer overflow.

If anyone could help me that would be great.

Make sure TVC (tape vertical check) is off. think it's in the setting parameters.

    A couple of questions:

Is your PC a laptop, and are you using a USB to serial converter?

Are you trying to drip feed, or are you just sending a program to the CNC?

I know that some buffer overflow problems are solved by disabling the FIFO buffers for that port.

Go to Start - Control Panel - System - Hardware Tab - Device Manager - Ports.

Double click on the COM port you are using.

In the Port Settings tab, click Advanced.

Move both sliders all the way to the left.

Click "Do not use FIFO buffers"

    OK all dialogs.

    Reboot your PC.

    thanks

well, is not a laptop, is conected directly to the serial port of the computer. I had already tried setting the FIFO buffer to the lowest value but not disabling it. I can run small programs, big ones get the buffer overflow.

    Thanks so much.

I solved the problem, it was ain issue with the COM port config. I'm now able to both drip feed and send programs. thanks a thousand for the quick responses
