Fanuc AC Spindle Unit

I have a 1981 kitamura mycenter 4 and the AC spindle servo unit i think is given me problems......when i try to run a program, manual, or orient the spindle, i couldnt get it to turn. i could hear a high pitched noise right before it goes into estop with a #8 alarm. after further investigating it i found a couple small .3 amp micro fuses blown on the spindle board....i replaced 5 of the 8 fuses and now when i try to run it it only spins 1/8-1/4 turn then it estops with the same alarm 8. I dont have any more knowlage of these units to decide what to check next. any ideas how be helpful! i know i could send the unit to fanuc but just trying to find a cheaper route!

This is the place that's always helped me with my spindle drives. I can't remember the name of the service guy but he walked me through a few things to try to get me up again.

yes i checked the voltage on the input of the servo unit and im getting 240, 250, 250VAC

If this is too high how do i drop the voltage to the spindle unit?

I don't mean to rob or hyjack this thread but I've been trying to find more information on my servo amplifiers..

Myself, I have several different FANUC controls in my shop.. a couple are still being built with eBay parts. They are the 6M-B, the 0M-C, the 0T-C, 15M and 11M.

They are the A06B-6058-H004, H005 and H006. I have two of each. I belive that these are the S series amplifiers and go with the servo motors like the 0S and 5S.. and that these are also digital.

I have not seen a very good reference outside of the servo motor and amplifier manuals as to what part number goes with what.. and often do not go into specific versions.. and I find it's always helpful to post the alphanumerical code after the "/" in your part numbers.

My biggest question is what is the normal position of the bat toggle switch on the big block on bottom board nearest the terminal strip.

I have no good information on the A06B-6044 drives.. but if I am right, they also get called "Velocity Control Units".. and that there are some types that are DC for the Yellow cap DC motors. It would be helpful if you also post your motor type & part numbers.

If you need a transformer look around in your control cabinets there should be at least one.

Always check the status of the green and/or red LED's on the boards that have them.. same as with your mainboards, cards and your servo motors. Make sure everything is wired and cabled properly according to the specifications in your manual(s).

If you need further help there is a diagnostic page available on many of the controls directly from the CRT/MDI.

Thanks,
Gregory Bowne

Get a Buck-Boost transformer (wire it to "buck"). Best prices to be found are on ebay, but your local electrical supply house will have what you need also.
