Need Help!- SYSTEM ERROR 998 (Fanuc 6MB)

The other day my Fanuc system 6M model B that is built on to my Mori Seiki MV-50 mill (machine center) produced this error on the CRT after pushing the power ON button.

SYSTEM ERROR.......................998
102.....0F

(using dots to show extra spaces as displayed on my crt)

I do not have a complete set of books or manuals for this machine but from what I can tell this seems to be a ROM parity error. Does anyone know how to handle this or do I need to start replacing boards and ordering a set of ROM's from Fanuc. I only hope this does not wipe out my parameter settings because if it does then I am not sure how I would go about recovering that.

Naw, just replace the one chip, I think it is the chip 102 check the PCB address at or beside the chip. Fanuc will send you just the one. About 50-60 dollars for chip and prog. fee.
Have done it myself many times, unless it is the ROM pcb, Good luck

what software series and version is that control? it may be printed on the chip.

It is a series 901 version 5, and it has 22 chips on the pcb.

Fanuc has informed me that the only 901 series they have is the latest which is ver 13. They said I would have to replace my entire chipset and add some, ver 13 has 26 chips.

So I was willing to take a gamble on a $50 chip and $50 to program it, but not going to spend the money to replace the whole set until I am somehow sure it is not the PCB or something else.

Now looking on eBay for ROM PCB cards.

Here are 101 and 102. Check for sure if 101 is the same as yours, even that this is from my 901 version 05 archive.
