    Data transfer software for Fanuc 18-T

    Hi.

    I have a problem with my lathe that has Fanuc 18-T control. The problem is that I have to have a computer for tranfering programs to lathe's memory and back, and now my computer is broken.. I had a very, very old computer with no graphic operating system, just dos-based software for data transfer and simple editing, and the programs were stored simply as xxxx.min files. I once opened one file with notepad and it only contained the code, nothing else.

    Now that my computer is broken, I have to have some kind of software through which I can do the transfer, can anyone tell me what kind of program should I get, possibly running on a bit newer computer and a graphic OS such as Win XP or older? Or even Linux, though I don't know how to use it. Any free and easy software, I have no idea what should I get or where to find it. It doesn't even need to be a kind of software that has editing state, just one that does the transferring to lathes memory and back.

    Thanks...

    Ok thanks very much, i didn't realize I could use even hyperterminal for that...

    But another problem, does anyone know what kind of com-port connection settings do I have to use for that fanuc control? Baud rate, stop bits etc? I haven't done the earlier computer installation myself so i don't know what should be used. I have a few manuals for that lathe but the connection settings are mentioned nowhere...

    just do this

    make parameter 12 bit 0=1
    553=11 for 9600 or 10 for 4800
    make ISO =1
    make i/o=1
    and you should be set..

    Any news about the settings yet? I'd appreciate if someone could explain what parameters should i change, and also to what should the connection settings be set to.

    BTW I got the data transfer thingy working, downloaded cadem free software and with Al's help the settings are now as they should. Also tried hyperterminal and it works also, but its a bit difficult for me to use because the little experience I've got from it comes from years ago at secondary school.

    Thanks Al, you're the man.
