have to cycle power to change tooling??

Please advise if there's a more appropriate section of this forum to post this in, thanks,

    Murato-Wiedemann 1250 turret punch

The two safety mats in the front, when stepped on, stop the program and throw a caution message 2041 Carriage Mats On.

The mat in the back throws 2042 Turrets Mats On.

When we step into the machine area to change a tool, the 2041 carriage mat error comes up.
We used to clear the caution, and then be able to command a tool change on a different station, the turret would spin, and we could change the next tool.
Now, the caution clears like it normally did, but we have to power the machine down and re-zero it before it will move again.

In Jog mode, BEFORE the zero is set, I jog the carriage and step on the mat. It stops and throws caution. I step off the mat and clear caution, and can jog again.
Once zero is set, I can jog, then step on the mat. Caution is thrown, I step off the mat and clear caution, but I cannot jog until I turn the machine off and back on again.

I want to return the machine to where I can step off the mat and clear the caution, and it will let me proceed to changing the next tool.

While in a program punching, if I step on a mat, I want to be able to step off, clear the caution, and resume the program. (instead of turning the machine off and back on, re-zeroing, browsing through the program to the exact spot where it stopped which isn't always possible, and resuming)

Please respond with advice or assistance, I don't know much about the machine beyond how to change tools and put new programs in so if there is a way to fix it, but the instructions are complicated, please be as specific as possible on what steps need done. I'm handy with mechanical systems and with anything electronic I can do with a multimeter

    I sure appreciate it!!
