You'll need to first find out if the control's operator's panel is wired for DNC operation. When the Fanuc 10 first came out, it had several different options for interfacing the operator's panel and the I/O signals. If the machine tool builder was using the old Fanuc 3M, and wanted to switch to the 10M, they would program the PLC (the interface ladder logic) using "Fanuc 3 compatible mode". In this mode, there was no provision for DNC operation. If it was programmed in "Fanuc 6 compatible mode", there was a TAPE postion on the mode select switch, and the PLC on the 10M would allow DNC operation in TAPE mode. The third option was "BMI", which also has DNC capability.
The bottom line is this: If you have a "TAPE" or "DNC" position on the operator's panel's mode select swith, then see if the word "TAPE" pops up on the CRT when you select this position. If it does, you're all set. If you can't get the word "TAPE" to appear on the screen, and your mode select switch just has an "EDIT" and an "AUTO" position (but no TAPE), you may be out of luck.
Some retrofitters may still have the equipment to modify the PLC for you and add the TAPE mode, but that would be a pretty involved process.
If you can put the control into TAPE mode, you'll need some DNC software for your PC and a NULL MODEM cable, and you'll need to set a few parameters, that's all. |
