Mori Seiki Fanuc 6M ALARM ERRORS

Hello,

We bought a used Mori Seiki MV-50 machine center about 5 months ago. It is all original still using the Fanuc System 6M control. I saw it run in the shop it came from so I know it was all good at some point in time. I just put power to it tonight and it seem to come alive to the point that it says it is NOT READY and in ALM state. None of the keys on the control pendent seem to be active.

When you first turn it on in big letters on the CRT is shows the following before the alarm screen.
SLAVE READY, then, BUBBLE READ, then NOT READY, then to the alarm screen in a normal size font. It seems to show every axis in over travel fault which is not the case. It also show that it is a Series 901 Version 05 before it switches to the normal font. Here is the list.

ALARM MESSAGE O2765 N2765
210 +X OT
211 -X OT
220 +Y OT
221 -Y OT
230 +Z OT
231 -Z OT
240 +A OT
241 -A OT
446 A SERVO
600 PC
607 PC
703 OVR HEAT

I know that these older machines do not like to be moved and certainly do not like to be with out power for a long period of time. I retro-fitted an old monarch VMC because the GE-550 NC control became unreliable. I am hoping that this one would run for a few years before I had to retro-fit it. I am new to this control but I am a fast learner. I know that the previous owner was loading programs from a serial cable, not tape. So I am hoping that I do not need to load any kind of exec tape to boot this control even though there is a tape reader built into the front door of the control cabinet.

Thanks for any help on this,
HouTX

check the front of the machine for a "standby" button. It might not be labeled standby but something to that effect. Once out of E-stop and this button is pressed the alarms should go away and the hyd should kick on.

Sounds like the +24v power supply is not working. Get a voltmeter and check the +24v output of the CNC's power supply. If that's OK, then you may have a SECOND power supply somewhere that is being used for these Overtravel and E-stop signals. Look for a 24v power supply that's NOT in the CNC cabinet, which Mori might have installed for the interface relays. Check the output of that supply and see if you have any blown fuses on that 24v supply.

Near the CNCs power supply, you should see a single phase multi-tap transformer, with a set of taps on the input side for voltages from 190v up to about 550v. If you have an AC voltmeter, check the voltage between the 0v tap and the one that has the other wire on it, and see what the input line voltage is. The different taps on the transformer allow you to connect the AC input to the correct tap, so the power supply gets the proper 200v on the secondary side. If the wire is connected to the 220v tap, and you're putting in 440v (or vice-versa) then that's your problem. You should have the transformer set within +/- 5% or so of the actual line voltage in your shop.

If you have to adjust the CNCs input transformer, then you may also have to re-jumper the big 3-phase servo transformer also. This transformer is usually located below the servo drives, and supplies 3-phase power to the servos. If that transformer isn't set right, then you need to adjust it. The jumper settings on this transformer are a bit complicated, so it's best to refer to the Fanuc 6M Maintenance manal for the procedure.
Basically, you want your shop's line voltage to be stepped down to the proper voltage for the servos.

You don't want the servos to come up ready if that big transformer isn't set right, So check those settings before you try to release the E-stop on the control, even if the other alarms go away.

Thanks everyone for the help and advice, it was all valuable. I did the power supply checks, double checked all my door interlocks, and double checked all the honda connectors in the NC cabinet. Went to the operator station, turned on the control and it only showed Y+ OT in alarm which is a true condition.

I pressed the Control ON button and the Hydraulics came to life for about 10 seconds. I tripped an overload on the spindle lube pump. After removing the pump and examining it, found it to be locked up. It needs a new set of bearings for the motor.

So at least I am making progress. Hope to have the pump and motor rebuilt / reassembled tomorrow and I will push ahead.

My next hurdle will be trying to send the control a program over the RS-232 DSub 25 pin connector. The former owners were sending programs to the machine this way but I did not ask them about the details of this method. Baud rate, data bits, parity, stop bits... if the pins used are standard for RS-232c?

Thanks for the help again,
HouTX
