Hi all, I have a KiwA with 4th axis. But can't input anything in the U offset ( G54 to G59) . And why is it a "U" instead of a "A" axis. I keep having to go to parameter setting to input the U coordinates and I' am kind of getting sick of it. Cause someday something might just go wrong in parameter while inputting without paying 100% attention. I guess it's just a parameter setting. But don't know what to change. I would like to change the "U" to an "A" as well if possible. But thats not the big deal. The WORK OFFSET is far more important. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks again! |

First what kind of control are you using? What function are you using to set the work coordinates the G10? Is the U-axis a position of the spindle or a position of a rotary table? The parameters for the G54-G59 can be set by programming the parameter. So if you can go to the parameter settings and change the U-axis parameter you should be able to change it via program. Now I am not 100% about you control but if you were using G54 as an example: G54X=#5221 G54Y=#5222 G54Z=#5223 G54U=#5224—if this is next in line of your work coordinates. If this is the parameter for the U-axis you should be able to put right in your program #5224=10( or what every you want). If you have a O series control then it is parameters 2501,2502,2503,2504 Stevo

I am using Fanuc OM-C. I always put in the work coordinates in the Offset registry ( G54 till G59) I can put in the X,Y and Z but the U is there but can't input anything. I input the U coordinates in parameter 758 for G54, 762 for G55, 766 for G56 and so on. Thanks

So what is the U-axis for?? I looked through the OM manual and I could not find anything that would lock or not allow you to change the U-axis in the work coordinate page. What you will probably have to do is to write this into the program. Can you change it via G10? If you program a G10L2P2U1. This should change the U in the work coordinate page under G55 to 1. P1=G54, P2=G55, P3=G56, P4=G57, P5=G58, P6=G59. If you do not have the G10 option then you will have to program the change by #2524=1. I am not very familiar with the O series control but this is the data that I have that should work. #2501-#2523 Fixture offsets (for O series) Offset....X.........Y........Z G54...#2501..#2502..#2503 G55...#2521..#2522..#2523 G56...#2541..#2542..#2543 G57...#2561..#2562..#2563 G58...#2581..#2582..#2583 G59...#2601..#2602..#2603 Now I am not 100% but the U-axis for the work coordinates should be: G54=#2504 G55=#2524 G56=#2544 G57=#2564 G58=#2584 G59=#2604 I will try to do more digging to see if I can’t find something on setting the “U” in the work coordinate page. (Edit)..Does it give you an alarm or error when you try to change it in the work coordinate page? Stevo Last edited by stevo1; 01-28-2009 at 10:53 AM. Reason: Question-Alarm

Doesn't give me any alarm. I'am not even able to type the U on the keyboard. I'll have to try the G10. Not even known with G10 on mill. The "U" is the 4th axis. Normally it should be a "A" axis cause it's laying in the X -axis. But we bought it as a U. Thanks again!
