Hello all! I'm new to CNC equipment in general and I have been tasked with building a CNC punch press with a Fanuc 18iMB controller. The 18i will be interfaced with model a i/o and a GeFanuc 90/30 plc, which will handle interface with a Quickpanel View. The PMC will handle all ladder logic. I guess what I'm looking for is a publication that can get me acquainted with this hardware in a hurry. I have the iDocs CD, but it's translated from Japanese and really not very helpful in bringing everything in this package together as a functional unit. Keep in mind that I have very little CNC experience so I may not be familiar with some pretty basic concepts. Thanks in advance for your help! |

| That will be a challenge if you have never integrated a CNC system before. Why the use of the PLC instead of the PMC handling all logic? It is a bit late now if you have bought it, but personally I would not have gone the Fanuc route, they are notoriously bad at assisting the one-off or newby retro-fitters. My first choice would be Mitsubishi or Fagor, Mits even offer free training including a PLC class at their Chicago plant as opposed to Fanuc that charge for everything. One other thing, you may have been better off getting the P(unch) version rather than the M(ill). Al.
