Fanuc 6T Ikegai lathe cannot upload prgs

I have been uploading and downloading programs via a lap top to the 6T control for 10 years now. It's sudenly stopped working. I type the program title eg O0100 and press the read button and then send the prog from laptop.
For some reason the control nolonger sees the input. I do not get any form of error code it just waits and waits. So i have to type progs in manually.
    Anyone any ideas. could be the a20b 0007 0060 01a board ?

have check all the comms codes against back up and its ok.
    have checked cabling also.

Also how do you increase the memory on this control.

Check the bits on the SETTING page called "INPUT DEVICE 1" and "INPUT DEVICE 2" INPUT DEVICE 1 should be set to "0" and INPUT DEVICE 2 should be set to "1" for RS232 input of data. If they're both "0", then when you press the READ button, the tape reader will click in and try to read a paper tape. If there's no tape in the reader, nothing will read.

The best way to expand the memory on Fanuc 6T and 6M controls is to add a BTR connection. You can put a PC near the machine, run files directly off the PC in TAPE mode, upload/download files with an RS232 port, access files from a network server (through the PC) and do background editing while the machine is running. For the price of an old PC and a BTR kit, you can add a lot of capability to the Fanuc 6. Larger bubble memory boards are outrageously expensive. For info, see our "MultiPort PC-DNC Editor" with the Fanuc BTR connection at www.rym.com or www.sub-soft.com

    Alan,

The Settings can be changed by selecting MDI mode, pressing the SETTING button, turning off the memory protect key switch, moving the cursur to the setting you want to change, then press the letter "P" then the value you want to enter, then INPUT. The process is similar to entering parameters, only you're on the SETTING page instead of the PARM page, and you don't have to throw the toggle switch on the main board like you do with parameters.

Our BTR kit is $1195, and it comes with our PC-DNC Editor software, the BTR output function, the special BTR cable for your control, and an operator's manual. You can purchase it from us at Suburban Machinery Software (www.sub-soft.com) or from our West coast distributor, Refresh Your Memory, Inc. (www.rym.com)
We've sold a lot of them over the years. The software runs on any PC from Windows 95/98 up to Windows XP. Sorry, but no Vista drivers are available yet.

adscnc, as Dan syas bubble memories from Fanuc are expensive, Tulip Electronics do replacement memories but I dont know the current cost.
We can also supply a BTR board and software for about £600, for program transfer or drip feeding.

I am having trouble setting the tool offsets on a 1982 Ikegia lathe with a Fanuc 6t control I am getting it done using G50 x z for tool 1 its the rest of the tools I'm struggling with. Can any body help me with an easy way to do this?

6T controls didn't have Geometry offsets. You use G50 to define the location of every tool relative to the X Z Zero. There are a number of ways to determine the G50; one way being as follows:

    1. For X, cut a diameter to measure and without moving the tool in X key in G50 and the measured diameter via MDI to set the X position readout to the measured dimension.
    2. For Z, take a light cut on the end of the part, determine how much material has to be removed to get to Z0.0, set the Z position readout to this amount as in point 1.
    3. Zero return in both X and Z. The displayed values are the X Z G50s for that tool.
    4. Repeat for all tools.

I normally put the integer part of the numbers displayed in the program as the G50 value and the decimal component in as an offset.

Once you have the G50s back to Zero return, the only easily repeatable known position on the machine, short G50's can be calculated if the machine has long travels back to the Zero Return position and you want to start closer to the part. If you moved the start position towards the chuck by 500mm in Z, then obviously just subtract 500 from all the Z G50's. You could put this move in at the very beginning of your program, or at the beginning of each tool, under block delete, so if you broke an insert you can easily get back to your start position. For example

    /G28 W0.0
    /G00 W-500.00
    G50 X? Z?

    Regards,

    Bill
