This is my first post on here shame it has to be about a problem!!
Ok Basically I have a Matrix Churchil Two Series Lathe which up until about 5 weeks ago worked faultlessly. I was running a totally standard program off and it had made 60 parts when all of a sudden it just stopped literally as if someone had pressed the emergency stop button and thick black smoke started pouring out of the back of the machine at the same time it displayed
1000 SP DRIVE FAULT
I managed to get it all turned off and supress the smoke in the back of the control cabinet. It turned out the board on the gem drive unit which looks to me like a large transformer circuit to smooth out ac to dc had a couple of old square looking capacitors and one of these had just melted into a nice black blob.
Anyway I have searched all over and managed to find a replacement board which I have fitted to the machine as it basically looked liked component failure on the board. Now when I started it up yesterday with the new board it turns on fine then when I press the on button again to start the hydraulics system etc it runs for about 3 seconds and then stops and displays the same error again. I am assuming this is to do with the spindle drive but does any one know what a 1000 fault is specifically what should I be looking for ?
Sorry to be so vague but I am not that well versed in Electronics
Any help is much appreciated
Francis
