She is alive, finally! Fanuc 15M help please!

I work for a very small engineering company and we just purchased a broken down kitamura h400. We had to replace way covers and a new z axis ballscrew. Speaking of screw have you ever purchased way wipers for these things, what a rip off, 1K for the rubber replacements.

Anyways we got her up and changing pallets and tools, only took me an hour to figure out you had to close the doors for it to change pallets or tools. It would just open the ATC or Pallet door and sit there, no error message's at all. Seems like the system wasn't completely finished.

I have three quick questions. I'm familiar with yasnac controllers not fanuc so please excuse me.

1. Is there anyway to see how much memory there is in my controller, is there a page I can go to and check?

2. What is the procedure step by step to upload a program? Is it supposed to be in edit/memory/tape/mdi?

3. The baud rate is set at 4800 but the manual says it can go to 19200, can i do this? I didn't see anyone running more than 4800 while searching for this answer early. Yes I searched and came up confushed becuase of all the different controllers.

Thanks,
Anthony

In order to see how much memory you have push your Program softkey until it displays the program directory. Down at the bottom of the page it should tell you how much memory you have. It looks something like this.

Free Pages:1020 (1280M) Free Files:1000.

The 1280m is the amount of memory you have in meters and the 1000 is the number of free programs that you can have.

To upload a program go to “Edit” mode and “Program” softkey. Push your over arrows until you see the softkeys Read and Punch. Read is what you use to bring a program from the PC to the CNC and Punch will send Programs from the CNC to the PC. Once you press one of them you have the option of doing all the programs “ALL”. Or specify a program number “PROG. #.

Using a 19200 baudrate in the 15 series control is not described. I have had problems with corrupt data using a 9600 baudrate. I usually use 4800 baudrate.

This is the parameter settings that I use
P0000=00000000
P0020=1(port 1 or =2 for port 2)
P0021=1(set to parameter 20)
P5000=00000100(ISO code)
P5001=1(device connected to CD4A)
P5002=2(device connected to CD4B)
P5003=3((device connected to CD4 serial port)
P5110=1(specifications of device corresponding to device 1)
P5111=2(stop bits)
P5112=10(baudrate)=10 for 4800 and 11 for 9600

P5120= these are set like 5110,5111,5112 if you are using port 2
P5121
P5122

I have attached the pin out for the cable to communicate.

Good luck,
Stevo

Stevo1,
Thanks for the help. I figured I could have messed with it for an hour trying to figure out if it was read/punch whatever or just ask someone who does it all day. The manual from kitamura is horrible, seems like they had someone who kind of spoke english write it.

When it says "Free Pages:1020 (1280M) Free Files:1000." How is this interpretted, does is there like so many lines per page or what?

Thanks,
Anthony

Buy me a Beer?

About 400 characters/metre, 1280m = ~480,000 characters.
Equivalent to 1280metres of tape.

Does that mean I have 480,000 caracters total or 480,000 characters times 1000 files?

Thanks

480,000 characters total, and I would assume the limit is 1000 registered programs.

Yes Al is right, the 1000 is the total registerable programs that you can have in the control. I am not posotive but I think the 1280m is 512k. Al knows more on that then I do.

Do you have the manuals for that control?

Alright, I looked at the control and it reads the following.

Free Pages:352 ( 64M) Free Files:137.

What does the 352 stand for? 64M seems very very small, I looked it up and that is like 32K. If I only have 32K I think I'm gonna have to punch something

If I do have 32K what would you guys recommend for an upgrade and who should I have do the upgrade? I would imagine I can send the board out to someone, I've looked around breifly online and there are a few people out there to do it, just wanna make sure I use the right one.

Yes that is a very low amount of memory. I believe that the 352 is the amount of characters that you have left to use in memory. The 137 free files is the number of registerable programs you have left to put in the control. You probably have 200 option available but you have 63 already in memory leaving 137.

Fanuc typically has the extra memory on the boards already. You just have to pay them and they will turn the option bits on that give you the added memory .

What board do you have in the Base0 Slot?? This will determine the amount of memory you can get before you have to add hardware.

Just let me know what board you have and I will send you a PM.

Stevo

Sorry guys, been away for a couple of days.

I'm not sure what you mean by BASEO. The boards are enclose in a plastic case and labeled as the following. THe number coresponds to the slots I believe

4 3 2 1 PSU
OPT 1 ADAX MAIN C PMC-VA PSU BI

I'm guessing your asking about the PSU board, it is labeled as the following
A16B-1212-0871/15C712990

Please let me know if this is the information you need.

We paid about 10K for this machine but have since put about 10K into it, still have yet to make a test cut so who knows what will be next. Good news is the spindle bearings where just recently replaced at the old shop where it ran. SHop closed down and it sat for a couple of months.

SteveO, you have a PM.

Alright, I've started to try and send things over via cimco edit. I have it set for ISO milling and 4800, 7 data bits, 2 stop bits and XON/XOFF. I havent changed any of the parameters in the control as they a very close to what you have listed about stevo. One thing thats funny is that I have two db25 pin connectors on the machine. I'm plugged into the one labeled CD6A, the other one is not labeled and I don't know where it goes.

My questions is why do you have an rj45 connector between the two, I can just make a quick db9 to db25 connector right? Just wire it correctly, do you have a diagram for this?
