Spindle Sync. Question?

I have a Romi E280 machine with two spindles and a 18i-TB control. I am trying to figure out how to sync. the two spindles for C-axis rotation. I can sync them no problem in spindle mode, but it doesn't work in orientation mode. I would also like to know if it is possible to turn both one and off at same time.

What I am doing is building a large cylindrical cam and need to support my stock with both spindles. That is why I need the to be synchronized from start to finish.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
T.J.

If one is neutral and the other one is being driven, will that work? Why do you need BOTH energized/driven?

Well, the neutral try worked in spindle mode but wont work in orientation mode. When I call M19 or M69 depending on spindle choice, the opposite spindle becomes energized in it current position acting as a brake. Won't turn freely, or start or stop without switching to that spindle by comand.

Now I looked in my fanuc manual and read about Synchronization control. Sounds interesting but it doesnt explain what codes to use or how to use them. All it sait for that was look in the machine manual. The Romi manual says nothing about. i think it was for taking two turrets, or tool posts and sync.ing them together. I dont have two turrets. But, I would think that since both spindles can act like an axis, why cant there be a master and slave?

Just a thought and I hope someone can help me with this.

Thanks,
T.J.
