AMERI SEIKI SPINDLE ORIENT PROBLEM

I HAVE AN AMERI SEIKI VAS 3. THE SPINDLE DOES NOT ORIENT. TRYING TO ORIENT CAUSES THE MACHINE TO ALARM OUT. ANY IDEAS?
